It was heartwarming to see the intergenerational gathering of smiling faces, at our Donut & Coffee Sunday this past week.

We are blessed to have a vibrant church that continues to thrive, as we strengthen our communal bonds in building up the Body of Christ.

What is The Feast of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary?

This Feast, celebrated annually on November 21st, commemorates the presentation of the Blessed Virgin as a child by her parents in the Temple in Jerusalem. Before Mary's birth, her parents received a heavenly message that they would bear a child. In thanksgiving for the God's gift of Mary's birth, they brought her to the Temple to consecrate their only daughter to The Lord.

The celebration of the Feast is first documented in the 11th century within the Byzantine Catholic Church. It was introduced into the Roman Catholic Church in the 15th century by Pope Gregory XI, then removed from the calendar by Pope Pius V in the mid 16th century. Pope Sixtus V later reestablished the feast in 1585, and it is still celebrated today, commemorating the faith of her parents, Joachim and Anne, and the purity of Mary.

Who is Saint Rose Philippine Duchesne?

Rose Philippine Duchesne was born in France, and in 1804 entered the newly-founded Society of the Sacred Heart. In 1818 she and five sisters of the order traveled to the frontier town of Saint Charles, Missouri, and opened the first school for girls between the Mississippi River and the Rocky Mountains.

The next twenty years were dedicated to founding schools. Rose made her last mission at the age of seventy-two among the Potawatomi Indians, where her infirmities kept her indoors. The Indians named her Quah-kah-ka-num-ad, “Woman-Who-Prays-Always.” After returning to the motherhouse, she slept in a little closet and spent long hours before the Blessed Sacrament. She died in 1852.

Here is the MEDITATION OF THE DAY from her

The Grace to Prepare for Our “Visitation”

Each time I send you a letter I think it is the last I shall write in this life. Old age tells me this, and today an illness stresses it with more certainty. This illness is a swelling that goes from one side of my body to the other, and they say it will end my life. I have been in this condition, more or less suffering, since the end of November. I am far from trying to escape death; indeed, I would long for it had I not so much reason to fear the judgment, since even the just man has no assurance of his lot, as God must judge even the just.

That thought is terrifying, so pray and ask others to pray for me. I do the same for you and your family. I may, however, drag on for a long time. God alone knows when the end will come. Adieu, dear sister. Oh, the happy day when we shall be together once more! Then all sorrows will end and we shall have eternal happiness in the Heart of our Savior, in whom I am your loving sister and friend.

Happy 33rd Sunday of Ordinary Time
In the midst of the darkness, the quaking of the heavens, and the “unsurpassed distress” of the last days, one thing remains to give us comfort: the presence of Jesus Christ. “They will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds.” Christ himself is his Word that “will not pass away.” “The wise shine brightly” in the midst of such darkness by clinging to this Word with full awareness, obedience, and trust. As for Christ, “now he waits until his enemies are made his footstool.” As for us, we trust that he is leading us to justice and to the fullness of joys in his presence. “By one offering he has made perfect forever those who are being consecrated.”

If you were intrigued by the presence of a ginormous crane at the OLM circle drive, hoisting some heavy equipment above the rooftop of our church, here’s the reason why: the two outdated HVAC units from when the building of the Church was completed in 1998, are being replaced. As Fr. Michael shared in his communication with the parish several months ago, the two units were 26 plus years old, and had outlasted their shelf life of twenty years by six additional years. Since they could no longer be salvaged through maintenance, they had to be replaced. Removing the old HVAC units turned out to be quite a feat even for the HVAC experts, but with skillful and meticulous precision they ultimately were able to hoist and then gingerly lower them onto the awaiting truck. OLM Building & Grounds Manager, Phil Zwick was on site to oversee the work in progress.

It is hoped that once the new HVAC equipment is installed, it will ensure a comfortable, temperature-controlled worship space for many years to come.
